This is a good time to have already learned a few other languages 20 years ago.

No, my wife and I will probably stay in the US. I guess we're too old and lazy to move. But also, I really hate to surrender. We still have, roughly, ⅓ of the voters who support the right wing, ⅓ who support the left and center-left, and ⅓ who -- for whatever reason -- didn't support either in the last election. It is not yet certain that the right wing will keep control at the national level forever, and they do not now have control over all of our 50 states.

It suck to discover how many US citizens oppose liberty. But we haven't collapsed into tyranny yet.

@Bill Statler Knock on wood! It does look like collapsing at the moment from here, though. Or let's say, that fishing foreign students and sleepers off the road and then put them in detention is yet rarely hitting US citizens it seems, however, that is just a small step further. The decency seems to already have gone. But also a society can only get better, when the good ones don't leave, but fight back. Tough decision to make i find. I am just looking at the beginning diaspora of academia and it seems to me, that this brain drain will only cause more problems later.

The most bizarre thing for the Brazilian people is to see how many Brazilians (who are/were in the United States)
who supported Trump and Bolsonaro are now crying in despair because they are being deported, they are being prosecuted etc...
..and asking for help from the Bolsonaro family 🤣

That is pretty much how it goes, both on the left and the right. You have some people who are motivated by making things better, and you have some people who focus on sabotaging or punishing their perceived enemies. The first group makes the world better, the second group makes the world worse.
